the 2008 election. and you see the john mccain supporters concentrated inland and the obama supporters on the coast. in 2010 we had a new census and we had a citizens redistricting commission that put together a new group of districts and the 2012 congress enjoyed those new districts and was able to pick up more seats along the coast because the districts follow more closely the partisan break down. so in 2012, democrats were able to pick up three seats and they actually pick up a 4th. that little yellow spot is a perfect example of this. that's district 7 where republican dan lungren has served since 2005. and it's a very close seat, brought to you by redistricting. >> the democrats are probably applauding now the election has come and gone. before it they were like don't do that. >> back in 2008, and again in 2010, that's when the ballot measures were up before voters so that we could create this independent commission instead of letting the legislature create their own lines. when that happened, the democrats were strongly against it. nancy pi rosie was against it -- pilosi was agai
